The Govt. Saw Mill (GSM), is located at Betapur, North & Middle Andaman district under the control of Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Middle Andaman. The Mill receives indents from applicants for sale of timber production at the GSM and after production the timber is sold to the consumers for the received indents. The entire operations of GSM have been computerized by NIC, Port Blair with the support & co-ordination of DFO and GSM officials through the e-Smart software of NIC. The software is operational from November, 2015 and manual activities are replaced with computersized system for the following:

1. Receipt of computerized indents from consumers in LIVE mode at the GSM.
2. Issue of computerized acknowledgement slip to the consumers across the counter for the received indents. The slip mentions tentative date of sale of timber.
3. The daily production details at GSM are computerized & integrated so that stock on hand is LIVE.
4. On the date of sale, the actual sale is made to the consumer at GSM through computerized billing, acknowledgement slip and gate pass.

   
   As the system is LIVE, the following information is disseminated in website for public access through this portal:

   1. Status of indents - All, Pending, Sold, Track an indent, etc.
   2. Online details of Timber availability at GSM across all timber categories, types, length, etc.

For this purpose, the data from GSM, Betapur is transferred electronically to NIC, Port Blair periodically so that latest updated information is available in the portal

Efforts are on to establish a dedicated leased line between GSM and NIC so that information is available Online in the portal with online connectivity to GSM.
