Taluka Court - Nicobar
There is a checkered history in practically putting the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate at Car Nicobar in operation after a court of
Chief Judicial Magistrate was created by the Government of India in the year of 1975.
The Andaman & Nicobar Administration issued a notification on 16.04.1998 establishing one court of Judicial Magistrate First Class
to be presided over by Chief Judicial Magistrate at Car Nicobar.
Construction of new court building on a permanent basis was commenced on 02.07.1999. Building was completed and the court was formally inaugurated by the Hon'ble Justice A.N. Ray, Acting Chief Justice, High Court, Calcutta on 11.10.2004.
Consequent upon the approval of the High Court Calcutta and notification of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration, the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Car Nicobar has been converted into a Circuit Court directing the presiding officer to hold the court in the first weeek of every month and rest part of the month to be stationed at Port Blair and holding the court of Joint Civil judge (Sr. Division), Port Blair. At present the presiding officer is Shri. Arabinda Panti Das holding office from 16.08.2013.
