The Sports Authority of India established a center in these islands in the year 1988 under its Special Area Games (SAG) to identify raw and natural talents and bring them upto National and International Level. The Sports Authority of India provides coaches and meets the recurring expenditure of staff, boarding and lodging, Sports kits, free education and medical facilities, Sports equipments etc. They are trained under a long term residential training programme and prepared for National and International Level Competitions. The major sports disciplines covered by SAI centre in these islands are Canoeing, Kayaking, Rowing, Cycling, Football, Swimming and Weight Lifting.
