Overview

The Directorate of Transport introduced the smartcard system for driving licence and registration certificate of vehicles. The smartcard based driving licence and registration certificate has been inaugurated and it is fully functional from 19-sep-2013 and 15-sep-2014 onwards.

The smart card is a chip based card with data endorsed on it. Since it is a standardized technology, these smart cards are accepted at any part of India. The chip carry information which can be read only through the s/w provided by M.O.R.T.H which is issued only to the RTO's. The digital graphic in the card are also a security feature which protect from fake cards.
